2 dead after Viking river boat hits bridge in southern Germany
A river cruise ship carrying nearly 230 people struck a bridge early Sunday in southern Germany, crushing the wheelhouse and killing two crew members
The dead were a 49-year-old who was guiding the vessel in place of the captain and a 33-year-old sailor. Both men were from Hungary.
The Viking Freya had just cast off while it was still dark from the town of Erlangen on its way to the Hungarian capital, Budapest, along the Main-Danube Canal when the collision occurred
Crystal Cruises is beefing up its business in the German/Austrian river sector by redesigning and enlarging the two Paris-class river yachts, Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel, as Rhine-class river yachts, and redeploying them east in 2018.

The new design places the ships as part of the line’s 106-guest Rhine-class series currently comprising Crystal Bach and Crystal Mahler, which are due to enter service June 18 and August 29, 2017 respectively. Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel will be set for maiden voyages in April 2018 and May 2018 respectively with detailed itineraries to be announced shortly.
